Tim Hawkins is our family’s favorite comedian.  We check out his youtube channel regularly and can quote several of his videos.  He wrote a song about Chick-Fil-A that we love.

And we can all sing “The Wife Song.”  But he’s not just a singer, he talks about parenting and life and church and he’s crazy and he makes us laugh.

He has lots of great video clips and we own a video of one of his tours, but sometimes you need a little variety.

So last week when I heard, “Mama, I’m tired of trying to find something funny to watch, and it ends up being junk,” I knew I had to find something else.

My first response in the past has always been, well then get off that screen and go create something funny!  Write something, make a video, or just find something different to do!  But this time, I didn’t go to my old standby.  Why?  Because this kid maintains good grades while being involved in tons of extracurricular that keeps him busy until 6:00 or later on most days.  And, even when he’s just hanging out around the house, he’s still busy with projects that are active and productive.  I know that I like to have downtime after a long day, and my kids feel the same way.

So, I started researching and found a few places the kids could check out and maybe they would find some funny, entertaining stuff that wouldn’t suddenly go to parts unknown.  Just reasonably safe (as much as anything internet-based will be), if mindless….downtime.

So, in addition to Tim Hawkins, here are three comedy sites to check out:

godvine.com

godtube.com

skitguys.com

I was also mindful that my kids are closer to sixteen, not six.  I weeded out Veggie Tales type sites, as wonderful as they may be.  So, these are not necessarily videos “for the whole family”…if your family includes toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary aged kids who don’t understand sarcasm and how to laugh at silliness without incorporating it into their own personal attitudes.

That said, here are three more that we’ve spent a good bit of time on and already have the kids’ seal of approval….

blimey cow on youtube–yes, blimey cow.

bad lip reading, also on youtube–We’ve watched the NFL ones, and they’re hilarious.  I didn’t realize there were lots of others until I looked up the link for this post.  I’m going to be checking out the ones on the Presidential debates soon!

vat19.com–This is actually a sales web site for off-the-wall products.  And not all of them are family friendly, but most of it is just funny or cool, like magnetic thinking putty.  They make videos featuring their products that my kids find entertaining, for sure.  Like this one for squishables.

And here’s a bonus web site I found while looking for funny ones….fervr.  Not sure this one has videos designed to be funny but it is a site aimed at Christian teens.  I read a video game review while I was there, and I thought it had a low cheese-factor.  But I’m 42, not 15, so my radar may be a little off.

I hope this list gives you some new ideas when you’re feeling like everything out there is junk.

So, what sites or comedians can you recommend?  We would love to hear more suggestions!
