If you’re teaching rational functions, students have to know those exponent rules.

I created a Google Forms mini formative assessment that covers these exponent rules but doesn’t require students to do any factoring.

They’ll do plenty of that throughout the rationals unit, and I wanted to create an assessment that would really help me determine if students understand just the exponent part of the problem.

These problems include the power and product rules, quotient and zero rules, as well as negative exponents.

Watch the video to see the exact form I created. I hope you’ll find great ideas for your own assessments.

With just five problems, it’s great for a ticket out the door (exit slip), homework check, a warm up a short homework assignment, or even a mini quiz.

No time to create your own? The entire Rationals Unit is ready to use immediately in the Kennedyfamfive Teachers pay Teachers store. Or, consider purchasing just this individual assessment.

Looking for ideas on solving equations in the rationals unit? This blog post could be useful.
